Soil has an interesting story. Where does it come from? How are different soils different? Why is it important?
Let’s look into these questions with a video.
But first, here are some important words:
- Decomposition
- Erosion
- Humus
- Organic
- Sediment
- Soil
- Weathering
Soil and the Environment
Get the scoop on soil. Find out how dirt tells us a lot about the environment.
What is Weathering?
Weathering is a process that creates soil. It’s not the only process, but it is an important one.

When rocks are weathered, they break down into smaller pieces. Those pieces can become small enough to be called “dirt”.

Weathering causes rocks to break apart into smaller pieces called sediment.
Erosion causes sediment to move.
