The Why: STAAR Warm-Ups Lesson 1

Why do teachers need STAAR daily warm-ups?

There are no high-quality, quick-to-use resources available on the market that align to STAAR Reading.

Teachers need quick, daily reviews of the most critical reading genres and test questions, so students can understand the types of thinking that are required for the STAAR test.

Why do students love the warm-ups?

The warm-ups are designed in quick to read segments, and these are easy for students to focus on the thinking skill without getting "bogged down" into a lengthy reading passage.

Why not just use full-length reading practice?

The quick, daily warm-up spirals a variety of skills. Students' build reading skills over an extended period of the entire month.

Spreading the reading across days and weeks builds retention and recall skills, so students build cognitive processing in addition to reading skills.
